I Am Alive.

Friends and Family: I have landed safely and soundly, and am now writing to you from my first hostel in Lima.  The flight was as good as one could expect from a 7 hour flight.  Roughly the same as flying to Europe without the added stress of the time change. The flight was delayed though, and we arrived 2 hours later than originally anticipated.  At 2am I arrived at the hostel, thankfully sharing a cab with some other Canadians who happened to be going to the same spot.  I was fairly lucky actually, had they not been on the same flight I would not have been able to get to the hostel without seriously overpaying for a cab.  Destiny has aligned for the first time. We slept late, as one would generally expect from a 2am arrival.  I had been lying awake since 7 though, barely concious but still alive enough to hear the sounds of the loud Quebecois coming through the doors.  Earplugs tonight I think. We took a walk down to Miraflores today, the Canadian girls and I.  Miraflores is the central tourist ish district of Lima.  It is the beach district after all, and the walking tour was offered for free by the hostel, so we tagged along.  All the guide did was essentially show us how to navigate the bus system, which was absolutely brilliant since the whole thing is generally different.  It runs like a subway but is actually a bus with doors 3 feet from the ground, and you get off at individual stations along the route. (There is a station called Canada Station and a station called Mexico Station, but a notable absense of a United States Station.)  It felt a bit like Indian transit to be completely honest, with the practical same necessary rugged violence to enfore your own space in the bus. We ate street meat tonight, having a go at the local chorizo offered by one of the many vendors on the side of the road.  It was delicious.  I seriously hope that some person from home gets to try this stuff, because it tastes brilliant, but does not have the same feeling as eating a McDonalds burger.  Delicious. Throwing in the towel for tonight, working on 4 hours of sleep and slowly starting to lose consciousness.  There will be a more updated post in a few days with more detailed information, because to be completely honest, this is all I have the energy for.
