Friends and Family;
After getting back from the Colca Canyon, I spent a couple more days in Arequipa, otherwise known as the White City. Sunday morning, there was a military parade. It was fairly interesting to see the many different uniforms and divisions of the army (not to mention the amount of busses that it took to transport them all to the Plaza de Armas). Later on in the day, there was another parade. The meaning of this one was fairly obscure until the end, when we were finally shown the meaning in the form of a sign. Needless to say, we were a bit appalled.
You mean somebody went through all of this trouble, all of this organizing and synchronisation, purchasing and finding volunteers, for this????
The parade itself was fairly beautiful, a mixture of authentic, colours and dancing, but the meaning of it all gave it a bit of an eyebrow-raising feel.
It was the 24th aniversary of a shopping mall.
A shopping mall.
Tomorrow I leave for Machu Picchu, a venture that will take me a total of 5 days, 4 nights. I will go by the Salkantay route, a much more impressive route (or so I’m told) than the actual Inca Trail.
This is why you might not hear from me for a while
